What is Sport Vision?
Sport vision is a therapy taken to a higher level. Instead of remediation of diagnosed problem areas, necessary vision skills inherent in a particular sport are enhanced by means of various training techniques.
The importance of good vision in the participation and enjoyment of sports activities cannot be overemphasized. To play any sport well, you have to see well. When engaged in competitive sports, your “visual fitness” becomes as important as a physical fitness. And, just as exercise and practice can improve an athlete’s fitness and performance, there are ways to improve “visual fitness” as well.
One measure of sports performance is improvement of skills as an activity is repeated over a period of time. Here is where more efficient vision may help an athlete improve performance. Even an outstanding athlete may further develop innate potential by maximizing vision skills.
Areas commonly dealt with include eye-hand coordination, peripheral vision, peripheral awareness and contrast sensitivity functions. Sport vision training can benefit all levels of athletes, from the Little Leaguer to the Major Leaguer, and from the weekend tennis player on up.
Sport vision can improve your ability to return a serve in tennis, catch a long touchdown pass, hit the green in golf, sink the eight ball in pool, bowl a strike, hit a softball, or sink a free throw (are you listening Shaq?).
Who would benefit from Sport Vision?
Anyone who desires to improve his or her skill and consistency in any chosen sport. Therapy is tailored to every individual depending on skill level, inherent eye efficiency skills, and their specific sport. The following is checklist to see if sport vision will help you.
